The Pink Button

In Part 1, I shared how Father interrupted my prayer on the mountain with the words:

“I’m not raising up a multitude, Mattaniah. I’m raising up a Remnant.”

As I remained before Him, He led me to Joel 2, where He began revealing the kind of people He is preparing for the inheritance.

Eventually, I made my way down the mountain, still reflecting on everything Father had been showing me. My heart was full, and I honestly thought our conversation had come to an end.

But Father had not finished speaking and as I reached the bottom of the mountain, something lying in the dust caught my attention.

It was a small pink button.

To most people it would probably have looked like nothing more than a lost button. Something insignificant. Something easily overlooked.

Yet over the many years that Father has been leading me on this journey with Him, I have learned never to ignore the seemingly insignificant things He places along my path. Time and again, He has used the simplest objects to begin the most profound conversations and reveal treasures hidden within His Word.

So I stopped and I picked up the little button and looked at it more closely.

What immediately caught my attention was that it still had threads attached to it. In fact, there were two different colours of thread. One appeared older than the other, almost as though the button had once been sewn back onto the garment before finally being torn away.

The previous day, as I had walked the very same path, it had not been there…but that day it was.

Holding that little button in my hand, I simply asked:

“Father… why a button?”

Almost immediately my thoughts returned to the words Father had just shown me in Joel:

“And tear your heart, and not your garments, and return to YAHUAH your ALUAH, for He shows favour and is compassionate, patient, and of great kindness, and He shall relent concerning the evil.”
— Joel 2:13

I found it remarkable that Father had my attention on a button from a garment, yet His attention was on something entirely different. Not the garment…The heart.

How beautifully this speaks into where Father has us right now.

We are walking through the second round of the seven nations of Deuteronomy 7. At the same time, Father has been speaking to us through the life of Yonah and his second call. Everywhere I look, I see the same invitation being repeated.

Return.

Repent.

Hear.

Obey.

Not merely changing our behaviour, but allowing Father to deal with our hearts. He is not looking for outward appearances. He is looking for inward surrender.

Suddenly I began seeing this thread woven throughout the Scriptures. Long before Israel entered the Promised Land, Moses declared:

“And you shall love YAHUAH your ALUAH with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your might.”
— Deuteronomy 6:5

Even before the inheritance, Father was already speaking about the heart and as I continued listening, another beautiful thought came so clearly to my spirit.

Moses faithfully led Israel through the wilderness, but he could only bring them as far as the Jordan River. Joshua led them into the Promised Land.

Suddenly I saw the prophetic picture.

The Torah faithfully brings us to the Jordan and it teaches us the ways of YAHUAH, reveals His righteousness, exposes our need for Him and shows us what still needs to change within us.

But it is Yahushua who brings us through. Joshua was pointing towards the greater Yahushua who was still to come and He Himself declared:

“I am the Door. Whoever enters through Me shall be saved, and shall go in and shall go out and find pasture.”
— John 10:9

And again:

“I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
— John 14:6

Through His blood, He opens what we could never open ourselves.

He is the Door into the inheritance.

He is the Way through the Jordan.

He is the One who brings His people into the Promised Land.

Perhaps this is why Father is dealing so deeply with our hearts during this second round because before Israel crossed the Jordan, they had to leave the wilderness behind.

Before the Remnant enters the inheritance Father has prepared, He is searching something far more important than our outward appearance.

He is searching our hearts..not torn garments…

But torn hearts.

Then another Scripture came alive in a fresh way:

“And I shall give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you. And I shall take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” – Ezekiel 36:26

The journey Father has us on is far deeper than merely overcoming strongholds. It is the journey from a heart of stone to a heart of flesh.

From hearing to Shema. From standing at the Jordan to following Yahushua through the Door into the inheritance that Father has prepared for His Remnant.

As I held that little pink button in my hand, I realized once again that Father is not simply preparing us to reach a destination; He is preparing our hearts for what awaits us there.

Perhaps this is why the second call of Yonah, our second round through the seven nations of Deuteronomy 7, and now Joel 2 are all meeting at the same place—the heart.

Father is calling His Remnant to shema, to return to Him wholeheartedly and to allow Him to remove everything that cannot cross the Jordan with us.

The Torah brings us to the Jordan, but Yahushua is the Door and the Way who brings us through and perhaps this little torn-off button has already asked us the question we need to carry with us from Part 2:

What still needs to come loose from my heart before I can cross over?

Throughout the Word of YAHUAH we see the same principle again and again: there are consequences when we choose disobedience, but there are beautiful blessings that follow obedience.
