Honey and Oil: The Sweetness and the Anointing

🍯🫒Honey and Oil: The Sweetness and the Anointing.

A land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates,a land of olive oil and honey.” — Deuteronomy 8:8

This morning, while I was praying, I asked Abba Yahuah to press and crush me so that I might produce oil for Him — oil that would burn brightly before His presence. But as I prayed, I found myself saying the word “honey” instead of “oil.” That slip of the tongue caught my spirit’s attention, and so began this conversation with Abba about honey and oil — the sweetness and the anointing.

Both flow from His creation without striving, both preserve life, and both are mentioned in Scripture as signs of His blessing and covenant. Together they form a prophetic picture — the harmony of Spirit and Truth, of revelation and anointing, of light and sweetness.

🍯 Honey — The Sweetness of His Word

Honey speaks of delight in the Word of Yahuah, of tasting and seeing that He is good. It is drawn from the flowers of the field — not by force, but through diligence and devotion. Every drop carries the fragrance of many blooms, gathered and refined through the tireless work of the bee.

So too, the honey of revelation flows from those who spend time in His presence, collecting the nectar of His voice and letting His truth settle deep within.

How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” — Psalm 119:103

Honey also never decays. It preserves itself. Even so, the Word of Yahuah endures forever — sweet, incorruptible, and eternal.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our Elohim stands forever.” — Isaiah 40:8

🫒 Oil — The Anointing of His Spirit

Olive oil flows only through pressing. The olive must be crushed before the pure oil can run clear. Even the name Gethsemane means “oil press” — the very place where Yahushua was pressed in anguish before the execution stake, so that the oil of redemption could flow for the world.

Then He said to them, ‘My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even unto death.’” — Matthew 26:38

Oil brings light, healing, and consecration. It kept the lamps of the Tabernacle burning continually before Yahuah.

Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light.” — Exodus 27:20

It was poured to anoint kings and priests, to heal the sick, and to set apart what belonged wholly to Yahuah.

Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders… and let them anoint him with oil in the name of Yahuah.” — James 5:14

Oil represents the Ruach ha’Kodesh — the Set-Apart Spirit — who empowers, heals, and gives light to our lamps.

🌿 Together — The Fullness of Spirit and Truth

Honey and oil appear side by side as a sign of Yahuah’s covenant blessing — “a land of olive oil and honey.” They are not opposites, but companions: the honey of His Word that nourishes within, and the oil of His Spirit that shines outward.

The true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth.” — John 4:23

Honey without oil becomes sweetness without power. Oil without honey becomes anointing without tenderness. But when both flow together — Spirit and Truth — there is balance, purity, and life.

They teach us that the life Yahuah desires in His people is one that is sweetened by His Word and anointed by His Spirit —a life that both delights and illuminates, both preserves and heals.

Abba Yahuah,

Thank You for the gentle correction in my prayer —for showing me that You desire both honey and oil from my life. Let the honey of Your Word fill my soul with sweetness, and the oil of Your Spirit fill my lamp with light.

Teach me to live in the harmony of Spirit and Truth —to carry both the tenderness of revelationand the strength of anointing.

May my life overflow with the fragrance of Your goodness, a land flowing with honey and oil. In Yahushua’s Name HalleluYAH.

Shabbat Shalom
