SONGS OF ASCENTS

THE SONG OF OUR HEARTS AS WE APPROACH YAHWEH

The Greek word for “ascent” in Strong’s Concordance is “anabathmos” (ἀναβαθμός), which is number 304. The Hebrew equivalent is ma’alah (מַעֲלָה), which is number 4609.

The word anabathmos means “a step, a flight of steps or a journey to a higher place”. It’s often used in the context of ascending or climbing. In the Bible, it’s frequently associated with the “Songs of Ascents” (Psalms 120-134 {15 Psalms}). These songs were sung by pilgrims as they ascended to Jerusalem for Biblical festivals.

In ancient Israel, Jerusalem was situated on a hill, and the temple was located at a higher elevation. All 12 tribes of Israel were commanded to go up to Jerusalem 3 times in the year at Pesach, Shavuot and Sukkot. (Deuteronomy 16:16 & Isaiah 33:20) This is also a confirmation for me today while I was busy talking to Yahshua about our Israel visit this year. I felt in my Spirit there needs to be 3 Israel visits this year, and now I know why. All 12 tribes of Israel were commanded to go up to Jerusalem 3 times in the year at Pesach, Shavuot and Sukkot and we are going too.

Ancient Pilgrim’s Path to the Temple in Jerusalem

Pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem for the Biblical festivals would physically ascend to the city, and the “Songs of Ascents” were likely sung during this journey. The steps leading up to the temple also held significant spiritual symbolism, representing the believer’s journey towards Yahweh and holiness.

Lately I sense that our ascending towards Yahweh during the approaching of the Biblical New Year in April 2025 / AVIV 5995, must reflects a song of our hearts as we ascent. It must also hold significant spiritual symbolism, representing our journey towards Yahweh and holiness. Every day must be a day of REDEDICATION as we approach Him, moving and growing closer to Him.

If you take a look at these 15 ASCENT Psalms, you will find a few you can relate to, but Psalm 121 is most probably the one we all know. For this journey where we are starting to ascend, this Psalm will truly be a CRY OUT and will hold significant spiritual symbolism, representing our journey towards Yahweh and holiness.

Psalm 121
A Song of Ascents.
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills; from where shall my help come? My help comes from YAHWEH, the Maker of the heavens and the earth. He will not give your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will not slumber nor sleep.

YAHWEH is the One keeping you; YAHWEH is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night; YAHWEH shall keep you from all evil; He shall keep your soul. YAHWEH shall keep your going out, and your coming in, from now on and till forever.”

May we lift up our eyes while we are on these spiritual pilgrims’ journey and know from where our help is from. Our Help is from Yahweh and from nobody and nothing else because He is the Maker of heaven and earth. If He is with us who can be against us? Let our hearts sing as we approach Yahweh because He is our Safe Keeper from now until the end and let us ascend with joyful songs to get closer to Him.

REVIVE, REPENT, RESTORE AND ROAR.
