WISE & DISCERNING HEARTS

TEACH ME TO LISTEN

I was listening to a praise and worship song from Jason Upton (Father, Son & Spirit) this morning. He asked in his song that Yahweh will teach him to listen. While I was repeating the words “teach me to listen”, Yahweh pointed His finger to 1 Kings 3, and I opened the Hebraic Root Study Bible paging to 1 Kings because I knew He is busy teaching me to listen. As I opened the chapter, I realized it was the chapter where Salomo was still a young boy, just after he took over the throne from his father David.

Every time I read this chapter it captures my imagination. How absolutely amazing must it be to be asked by our Heavenly Father what is our heart’s desire? Although He actually already know. But to be asked by the Creator of the Universe that made everything, whom can do anything, give anything and create anything, will be an absolutely honour. Salomo’s request was: “Therefore, give to Your servant an understanding heart…” (1 Kings 3:9) and Yahweh granted His request.

GIVING YOU THAT WHICH YOU HAVE NOT ASKED

I was wondering by myself, what would I answer if I have that opportunity? Solomon was so humble as a young king in the beginning, to ask for wisdom and an understanding heart. He knew if he wants to be a righteous king he would need wisdom and in verse 28 we learn that Elohim’s wisdom was in Solomon. Imagine…… just imagine if we also could have the wisdom of the living Elohim in us like Solomon. Just in the next chapter we read that he spoke 3,000 proverbs, and he wrote 1050 songs. (1 Kings 4:32) But Yahweh granted him more than what he asked.

“Behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given to you a wise and understanding heart, so that there was none like you before you, and after you none shall rise up like you. And also, I HAVE GIVEN YOU THAT WHICH YOU DID NOT ASKED, both riches and honour, that there shall not be a man like you among the kings all your days.” (1 Kings 3:12-13)

If we have wise and understanding hearts, just think how many things we would do different? If we could have Yahweh’s wisdom and understanding heart in us, we would react so differently to our family, our friends and even strangers around us. With His wisdom in us we would be found righteous and judging with fairness.

IF-BLESSING

BUT IF – yes there is an IF in this story – “And IF YOU walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and MY COMMANDS, as your father David walked, then I will prolong your days.” (1 Kings 3:14) So not only did Yahweh gave Solomon his request of a wise and understanding heart, He gave Solomon riches too and to but the cherry on top, Yahweh gave him a long life too, but there is an IF-BLESSING. Father is teaching us something heavenly here that not everybody grasps or understand. It is a KEY: There is an IF-BLESSING when we walk in Yahweh’s ways and are obeying His commands and keep His statutes. More than we asked and cherries waiting to be added on top of our wisdom request and bowing down in humbleness before our King.

What an awesome Elohim we serve? Let Your Kingdom come, and let Your will be done. First find Yahweh’s Kingdom and everything will be added to it. Because of Solomon’s wise request to ask for wisdom and not riches, Yahweh granted him both and added a prolong life. May we also ask for wisdom in our prayer requests and not only riches, belongings and fleshly desires and needs. I can testify that if you ask for wisdom, then Yahweh will give you creative ideas to also receive riches. Trust in Him and ask for His wisdom and an understanding heart, and trust that that what you didn’t asked will be added too and keep walking in His IF-BLESSINGS by keeping His statutes and His commands.
